In March I will celebrate my 2nd anniversary of quilting.   2 years ago I went to a meetup group for "Quilts of Valor".  This meetup makes quilts for veterans and we meet monthly.  We create them with red white and blue fabrics in a variety of patterns.  When this challenge came up with PQ, I wanted to create a quilt, but not necessarily a patriotic quilt since i spend a lot of time doing that with QOV. Snowflake Quilt:  I started with the idea of a snowflake quilt.  I wanted to figure out if I can create snowflakes like we did with paper when we were kids, but with fabric.  I started by putting some interfacing on the back of the fabric to make it stiffer.  Then I folded it up into a cone-shaped triangle and cut various shapes.  The snowflake that resulted ended up cute, but not as awesome as I wanted.  So instead of creating a whole quilt, I just did a little wall hanging.  I appliqued it onto white fabric and did the ...

Project Quilting - Season 10 is on! If you've never done or heard of Project Quilting checkout this blog . I participated last season and you can check out my entries in previous blog posts.  I am excited to participate this year!  My main goal is to use scraps rather than buying fabric or supplies.  Last year I bought something new for almost every challenge and I have plenty of stash so I should be able to use what I have. Project Quilting Season 9, Challenge 6: Scraptastic Monkey's Naptime 38" x 50" I create in Schaumburg Illinois There are 26 unique fabrics used, all from my stash. This is the 6th and final challenge in Sason 9 of Project Quilting. I've learned a lot, had a ton of fun and been immensely inspired. Monkey's Naptime started with gathering a bunch of scraps. I have a ton I can use. I decided to use holiday themed fabrics that were already cut up into 2.5 in squares. I had a nice light purple fabric to accompany the holidays. I wanted to do something besides squares, so I chose pinwheels. I liked the idea of doing a lot of chain piecing. So I started quickly. I found a sashing fabric that would not clash with any holiday pieces, so I cut it up and pieced the rows together horizontally. Then I did each row to each other, with sashing in between. A Stitch in Time This is my piece:   Canary@Work 27" x 16 1/2" I create in Schaumburg Illinois I started by looking up the proverb. It's basically about saving effort, saving time, procrastination is evil.... so I went towards the saving effort end of the spectrum.  My team at work is in the software development realm. We needed an automated testing solution that is easier to use. I took that task on.  With a couple of tools I developed Canary.  We call it canary, because coal miners used to send canary birds into the mines. If the birds survived, the miners knew it was safe.  This automated solution gives us the ability to run thru our application quickly, making sure it is functioning normally.  So anyway when the challenge was announced, my mind went to canary and never really left.  Here are some sketches.  I wanted to do thread painting and applique. "Where Did it Go-yow?"  (Pronounce go yo) 45" x 50" I create in Schaumburg Illinois I love mountain dew, I like mello yellow. I don't like yellow fabric. Evidence points to the fact that I only had one bit of fabric with yellow in my entire stash, and even that was because I was doing a theme and yellow was one of the six fabrics I picked up to be part of it. So, I was a bit discouraged when I got this challenge. The day before the challenge was announced, I took a Block of the Month class and it focused on Disappearing 9 patch & 4 patch. I got my 9 patch done properly, but the disappearing hourglass block I tried in class was unsuccessful. When I went to cut it in 3rds, I made a mistake on the math and cut instead of marked. I should have marked it and checked rather than cutting immediately. Anyway, I needed to redo it for my own piece of mind.
