Becca's Quilting Fun

Ive been busy, stuck at home. I work 40-50 hrs a week. Thankfully im still employed.  Im trying zumba classes. Im working with my theatre group on an online teaser video of the play we were supposed to be opening on May 8th. Im working on editing my synagogue newsletter. Im trying to pack.... I did not expect to be able to make anything. Necessity is the mother of invention. I need to go get Passover food so i made myself a mask. This is my entry.

Its a busy week so i had to do this Saturday morning again. The best part was that this Saturday I'm on quilt retreat! I'll add more detail later but these are scraps from one of my retreat projects. It is 11"x14" and i create in Schaumburg Illinois

Team Colors was the prompt. I've never really watched sports enough to have a team.  The first thing I thought of when I heard the prompt was the school color stuff from my college.   My school, Lake Forest College's colors are red and black.  But a lot of the shirts & school themed clothing that I liked was green & gray. I took that idea of the competing school colors and made a pattern.  I did not have much time to create this week, so I made something small. This was 10" x 9"  I create in Schaumburg         

Welcome to Season 11 of Project Quilting!  Find out more here .   I am excited to do my first project of the season. I'll post a blog entry for each project (6 total). I understand why you might think "binary life" refers to the current discussion of gender norms in society. This quilt has nothing to do with gender.  Binary in this case refers to technology.  I'm a software engineer. I've been into computers since i was a kid. Computers and the internet at their basic level are a series of 0s and 1s, aka Binary. My original plan when i got this challenge was to do a binary binary quilt with a whole lot of zeros and ones pieced from scraps. Life got in the way. Saturday morning and i still haven't started. I knew i wanted to do the challenge so i sat at my machine,  grabbed some scraps and tried to create a 1. Then i created a 0. Ok, easy enough. But i don't want to make a zillion of them. I turned to the internet to find out the calculation...

I love chocolate I have a quilting class today (saturday) ghat i had to prep A LOT of fabric for. And i hsve had plans all week long , including tonight. So i took a spare 45 min and created this. I call it "chocolate mice". Its a mousepad and it has chocolate fabric. 6"x 10" I create in Schaumburg Illinois

  Relating to letters or the alphabet. This was my week!  I wanted to try paper piecing again and this gave me a chance. I didnt have a lot of time because i am starting my volunteer role: stage managing Moon Over Buffalo (theatre).  I took what time i had and gave it my best shot. I dont have a printer so i used paper, a ruler, pencil and a permanent marker to sketch out the letter. I chose A because I have really cool lobster fabric left over from a project for my grandpa and his middle name starts with A. Once i drew out and markered my letter, i had to decide where to start. Taking the small pieces first and sectioning it off like blocks made it easy to do the piecing of this letter. I wanted to  keep the lobster fabric going to finish it off, so i did a graduated border/binding. The piece is 11" x 16". I create in Schaumburg Illinois. Its called "A" Lobster

So this was a tough week. I knew it would be difficult because of my other volunteer passion: theatre. Its tech week which is the week of rehearsals every night when all the lighting and sound mix with the actors to create the show.  Working a full time job plus rehearsals every night leaves little time for quilting.  I thought id have a reprieve on sunday night and monday day due to a fed holiday. Unfortunately due to a medical issue, i was unable to quilt sunday or monday. That left me Saturday to create the pixel play magic. After encouragement from the facebook group, i knew i could do something. I looked on pinterest and google images all week for inspiration.  Friday i decided to do an infinity symbol. I tried first to do something with nature type patterns on the fabric. But i didnt put it together correctly.
